An acrostic sonnet
Robertas Garden by RodG
Rhyming Acrostic Contest writing prompt entry

Roberta roamed amidst a floral brood,
O'er twisting paths through tangled robust plants.
Between fence rails Swen's Lake was viewed.
Enchanted by their hues, exotic scents,
Roberta used her shears to snip bouquets
To carry home in woven baskets full,
Assortments varied and arranged in sprays.
So much she'd come upon ambrosial.

Gardenias, roses beckoned to be plucked
Azaleas, too, refused to be ignored.
Red Rose of Sharon lured, in bushes tucked.
Delightful Black-eyed Susans she adored.
Each bloom enticed and mesmerized,
None were disliked and many oft surprised.

My sonnet was inspired by this classic nursery rhyme:
Mary, Mary, quite contrary,
How does your garden grow?
With silver bells, and cockle shells,
And pretty maids all in a row

Spray: a group or bunch of cut flowers, leafy twigs, etc., arranged decoratively and for display, as in a vase.

Ambrosial: exceptionally pleasing to taste or smell; especially delicious or fragrant.
