Now alive in my golden age, I sit on my patio, gaze at the morning sky,
sip my decaffeinated coffee and think how much longer will I last?
Will I be here next summer to watch that robin pull another unfortunate worm from the grass?
Will I be here each morning to watch the two squirrelly guys scamper down the maple tree?
Will I be here to watch baby rabbits emerge to explore their expanding world?
Such thoughts now encroaching, I suppose such thinking is pertinent because I
attended the funerals of several friends who have completed their earthly journeys.
I must admit, looking back, I’ve had a good life filled with love, children,
and a wife who is my best friend. So far, I have lasted for eight decades...
In conclusion, however, I must admit I’m a tad greedy because
my wish as I gaze at a beautiful clear, blue morning sky…
Yes, you guessed it, for many more years to come.
