When I said no, no one listened Hiding truths, avoiding prison Eager she was, they all proclaimed No protest heard, she's just ashamed I bared that shame, in words of tears Striving to free my future years Again I screamed that I said no Indecent men let instincts grow Declared themselves upon a child Now bars restrain their acts so vile One word I said, outweighed denial Recognized Author Notes Thank you Sean T Phelan for the artwork This poem comes from a friend's story of her younger years and how one word gave her strength for a future life
