It’s the parents’ worst nightmare:
their child is shot at school
by a madman on the loose.
Oh, why is life so cruel?
The horror of that warning:
Lockdown! Stay away.
There’s a killer in the classroom.
All they can do is pray.
They hold their breaths and wait
in mortal fear and dread.
Heartrending screams burst out
when their child is counted dead.
The innocents are murdered
in a tragic situation.
Which school will be next
in this gun-obsessed nation?
Grief stalks the playground,
terror always near.
We’re hostage to the horror;
who will shed the next tear?
