Author Notes
Author note:
In Ancient Greece, ''Know thyself'' was inscribed in the forecourt of the Temple of Apollo at Delphi and was often cited by Socrates. (The aphorism has also been attributed to other sages and philosophers.)
According to Socrates, true wisdom is acknowledging what you do not know. To know yourself is the beginning of wisdom, so an essential part of knowing yourself must be recognizing the limits of your own wisdom and understanding, knowing what you do genuinely know and knowing what you have yet to learn.
Knowing oneself for Socrates also entailed knowing one's true nature as an immortal soul.
