Write a poem just about me?
How boring to most would that be!
I’d say my life has been good
Sometimes I did what I should
I ran it somewhat spontaneously.

In the beginning, I was a just a boy
My mom and dad’s pride and joy.
Sometimes I did what was right
Sometimes I left them both in fright
How I did their peaceful life annoy!

Often in my younger days at school
I simply ignored whatever rule
Applied to the lessons of that day
Preferring the outside to play
Some say I acted like a fool.

My teenage years got real rowdy
With a band, gave drugs a howdy.
But quickly knew, not for me
Had I not quit where would I be?
That future was more than cloudy.

Flunked out, drifted a bad deal!
Found myself in an oil field
Hard work, and dangerous too!
Hardest that I ever knew!
Realized on that rig, life was real.

Next stop, the Navy welcomed me
“Here are some rules, let’s go to sea!”
Ended up way out in the Far East
I learned so much to say the least!
Returned a man thanks to the Navy.

In this, the late Autumn of my life
I share love, grand-kids with my wife
And love of travel in our motorhome
Around America we often roam
Livin’ large, laughin’ loud – no strife.

More than schools, a hard oil rig floor
And, a Navy tour, taught me much more
Of what it takes to get ahead
Don’t indulge too much, work instead
At what you love most – to really score.

Hope there is a God to forgive my sin
And, with laughter, might let me in
But, not too soon, my Savior, please
Having too much fun in years these
Knowing I shall not pass this way again.

Author Notes
Always nice to take a stroll down memory lane - and even better at Easter where it is a good time to take stock. At the bottom line, I cannot explain how He allowed me such love and happiness. It has been an adventure! Happy Easter to y'all all!
