I'm a simple gal
and everything that counts
for me, is right here on my mount.
Rainbow tints that burst in Springtime
pearled dewdrops that glisten in the sunshine.
Nightingales and robins that flutter wings
to my heart joy their sweet song brings.
I rejoice when my church bells ring,
its solumn voice calls us
to come praise our celestial King.
Pine forests and chestnut woods
calm my dark inner moods
I thrive in this verdant oasis of quietude.
Come late summer the grass sways,
it's time to harvest the winter hay.
I lay my pitch fork down at midday
and while the cut grass dries under the sun's rays
my mind slips into a dreamy haze.
Each season has its poetic grace;
In Autumn, sunset hues wrap
my heart in a warm embrace,
while in winter clime I adore watching
the flames dance in my old fireplace.
This is my sanctuary,
it protects me from the world's hostility.
On my mount I love life's peaceful pace
and I thank the Lord for this heavenly place.
