The Insecurity Tax by Tom Horonzy
Forgiveness Poem writing prompt entry

Rarely goes the human being
who lets things be once they do it.
They reminisce what may have been
it they had done it differently
or perhaps had not done it at all.
Some things dun have men feel small.
They are shamed for doing it;
yet what done is done, right?
So why not let it go?
Pure and simple.
Guilt.
The Insecurity Tax.
Like the Fram Filter ad once said:
"Pay me now or pay me later."
One way or the other
the taxman will get his due
and he, my friend, is named
Conscious.
That little imp inside our head
which has us toss and turn in bed
wondering if what we said
is permanently writ in a ledger
tracking our assets and debits
which will be reviewed in an audit
once we leave from where we've been.
Did you make restitution?
If not, what will be the penalty?
Better go and make it right
while you have the time.
Confession is good for the soul.

Author Notes
If you don't want to own what you do; don't do it. Similar to do the crime, serve the time.
