Zero Tolerance is a prime example
Of the all-too-common phenomenon
Of weasel words -buzz words
designed to limit critical thinking
they sound good but they limit
one's ability to see the real truth
behind the lie
George Orwell would be shocked
To see these double think words everywhere
Zero tolerance leads to zero common sense
When every infraction of the rules
Becomes a class A felony
with ten-year-old children charged
With felony drug dealing
For offering a classmate a Tylenol.

Author Notes
The poetry soup contest prompt was to write a poem incorporating a buzzword. I chose zero tolerance because under zero tolerance every infraction of a rule is treated as a class one felony offense with no common sense or discretion allowed. This policy is particularly prevalent in modern schools where the children are all treated as potential enemies of the State for actions that would once upon a time be considered very minor offenses if charged at all.
