Things Found Along The Road by GeraldShuler
Blank Verse writing prompt entry

Had I but known what lurked along the road,
when first my heart committed to its goal
perhaps I would have sought to change my ways;
alas, my eyes were blinded to the truth.
When first my heart committed to its goal
my walk with Christ had only just begun.
alas, my eyes were blinded to the truth.
and, thus, it slowed my journey on the road.
My walk with Christ had only just begun
but things along the road had caught my eye;
alas, my eyes were blinded to the truth.
I gladly took what Satan offered me.
Those things along the road that caught my eye
(small things that seemed so innocent at first)
Had caught me in a web I could not loose.
But now, with eyes wide open, I can see
Small things that seemed so innocent at first
had become the load I could not bear.
Despair became the sack that bore my load
as I ignored the Word that shows the way.
Oh Lord, the load I knew I could not bear
had tempted me to take another road.
But that road would not bring me close to thee...
Lord, stay with me, wrapped in your loving arms.
Temptation urged I take another road
but truth won out and Satan lost the fight.
Alas, the load I carried has been shed
and I now walk the straight and narrow path.
If only I had better understood
I would have sooner sought to shed the weight
and left good fruit where once the lies had been
so others can see fruit along the road.
