Roosters crow at the break of dawn
Reminding me that life goes on
A new day starts before sunrise
Before the sleep has left my eyes
Rise and shine and start a new day
There’s hogs to feed and cows to hay
So much to do it’s no surprise
A new day starts before sunrise
The fields are ripe and need tending
Fences down that need some mending
A new day starts before sunrise
The noontime sun brings sweat filled eyes
When evening shadows dim the day
I put my boots and plow away
Then wash the sweat from my tired eyes
A new day starts before sunrise
Soundly I sleep because I know
At four o'clock the roosters crow
I will brush the sleep from my eyes
A new day starts before sunrise
