Ol’ Jack called this “Twix Turkeyed-N-Treed”,
These four weeks between Thanksgiving
And the Christmas-chaos grand-finale,
He’d say, “best month of any year’s living!”
He’d laugh, “As a man, I never get tense -
Like the women who worry, fret and fear
So much about food, gifts, family details…
I just watch football, snack and drink beer.”
Sure, he’d get the lights up outside and did
Some shopping at Wal-mart, Lowes,
Amazon, and Dick’s Sporting Goods - all
On-line! No crowds! No worries! No woes!
“Weather’s cooler”, he’d say, “but not cold,
So, golf’s still in play. The fishin’ ain’t bad.
People are generally in a better mood.
Now, the grass stopped growing. I’m glad!”
Jack often sat on his porch posting facebook,
With his laptop, a bourbon and sweater…
And thinkin’, “Twix Turkeyed-N-Treed”,
Life is good? Hey, it doesn’t get any better!”
I sure miss Ol’ Jack; his philosophies were
Original, funny - because they were all true.
I honor his memory by remembering them
And sharing with many friends, like you…

Jack was first a business man. Built nice houses in the country. But, he had spent enough time in business in the big city to know that life was not worth whatever the city might pay, so he returned to his roots. To be a philosopher of any value, your wisdom must be based on many far-ranging experiences. He had taken notes as he went along. This poem only covers one page... (Full Disclosure: That is me in the picture - imitating Jack. He would claim he is taller and better looking. That is why I am not facing the camera.)
