There was a Magic Bank Account my grandpa left for me
But with this gift he said were rules to which I must agree
And every morning I would find a sum in strange amount
Eighty-six thousand, four hundred ones would be placed in my account
Grandpa said ‘twas like a game, this prize I would receive
But cautioned me that like a game, strict rules were meant to heed
He told me, “Son, remember, by the end of every day
You must have used the whole amount or the rest will go away.
You cannot save the balance, nor invest or even lend it
The strictest rule you must abide is that each day you spend it!”
“And every morning,” Grandpa said, “you’ll find this odd amount,
Eighty-six thousand, four hundred ones will be there in your account.”
But Grandpa cautioned one thing more, “Beware at any instant,”
The Bank can say “Game Over; your account’s now non-existent.”
Excitedly, I thought of wonderous things to buy or do
Not just for me, but family, friends and needy others, too
And try I would to spend it all and by the rules adhere
And know next morn in my account, more money would appear
When I explained to Grandpa all the plans I had thought out
To wisely spend the money in this Magic Bank Account
He puffed his pipe, then stroked his beard and said with crafty grin
“I must confess… this bank account… no money is within.”
“The dollars are but seconds, in the Game of Life we play
Eighty-six thousand, four hundred ones are seconds in each day
And each of us are winners with a prize each morn on waking
Eighty-six thousand, four hundred ones are in our bank for taking
And wisely we must use this gift, be proud of each endeavor
For today's tomorrow’s yesterday, past time is lost forever”
“And though this Magic Bank Account refills itself each day
Remember, son, at any time, it all could go away
And this can happen anywhere, at any time, imposed
The Bank can call, “Game Over, your account has just been closed”
“The game is life, the prize is real, the precious gift is time
Each second is worth so much more than dollars (you will find)
Be honest, humble, proud and true, be thankful for each minute
And spend your life in peace and love and share with all who’s in it”
Money doesn’t make you rich, life’s worth’s unmeasured cost
Spend all your seconds wisely for you can’t bring back time lost
“The moral of this tale, my son, begets a happy ending
This Magic Bank Account is yours...
Now go out and start spending!”
