Rising moon glowing
Lengthening shadows
Gusting winds flowing
He slipped from his car
Covertly scheming…
Checked about the neighborhood
He knew ranch houses well
Cut through the bushes
Snuck to the back
Jerked the sliding glass door
Lock gave with a thud
He eased into the kitchen
In her bedroom
she closed her eyes tight
He sloped along the hallway
Cracked opened her door
Watched her bathed in moonlight
Pushed the door, a loud squeak.
Her eyes white with fear
Scream frozen in her throat
“Please don’t scream,” he said
“Daddy, you scared me.”
“I’m sorry, I lost my key.”
