A Handmade Sign by Boogienights

When driving to the park one sunny day,
I saw a woman poorly dressed and sad.
Down on the corner with a handmade sign,
that read "ANYTHING HELPS", I felt so bad.

While sitting in that park for family day,
I thought of her and how fate is unkind.
I wondered if that woman would be seen,
down on the corner with a handmade sign.

What had brought her to this time and place?
What had started her on this decline?
Could I do something for this lonely soul,
down on the corner with a handmade sign?

While driving back I saw she was still there,
I found some money I was sure to waste
on frivolous things that I didn't need.
Into that woman's hand the cash I placed.

I thought how meager my gesture had been,
and how this guilt I felt would not decline.
The homeless need much more than just some cash,
but what it is I really can't define.

While driving to the park one sunny day,
I saw a woman poorly dressed and sad.
Down on the corner with a handmade sign,
that read "ANYTHING HELPS", I still feel bad.
