Finnegan Begins Again by Erika Seshadri
Take A Photo Poetry contest entry

I saw his body,
remnants of hunger
and tattered wool.
Haggard

I felt his breath,
warm on my hand
uncertain of fate.
Staggered

I met his eyes,
dull desperation
from chronic neglect.
Pleading

I touched his leg,
sinews bared
from barbed wire.
Bleeding

I took him home,
he grew in trust
Now we're friends,
the two of us

Author Notes
THIS POEM is about my sweetheart sheep, Finnegan. He comes to the front porch to visit me often where he receives head scratches.
