F**K the Police: Profiling in Reverse
Stereotyping Works Both Ways by Elizabeth Emerald

This evening, as always on weekdays, I passed out bagged suppers to the needy people in town.

I work (so to speak: for practical purposes my presence is superfluous) alongside my friend Mary, who appreciates my partnership (as regards raunchy riffing).

Peter, a personable fellow, monitors the flow of the line; he finesses the fine points of social-distancing, whilst ushering our customers to the distribution table.

In the street, abutting the grounds where we serve, were two police officers, and three people holding Black Lives Matter signs.

Peter, observing the scene with a scowl, turned to Mary and me as he gestured toward the street, and raising his voice, said:

Look at the cops harassing the protesters.

One of the officers strode across the grass and approached our table.

Turns out the man hadn't heard Peter's rant; he was smiling as he said:

On behalf of the department, I want to thank you for feeding the needy.
