Take me backward to the fifties and sixties
A time when children were simple and free
Playing outdoors; video games not found
Watching Felix the Cat and Bozo the Clown
Take me backward to the fifties and sixties
A time when children were simple and free
Playing ring around the rosy; hide and seek
Reading books; Mother Goose and Bo peep
Take me backward to the fifties and sixties
A time when children were simple and free
Twirling and playacting leader of the band
Competing in board games like Candy Land
Take me backward to the fifties and sixties
A time when children were simple and free
When exercise, social skills were practiced
Leaving children more artistic; less anxious
Take me backward to the fifties and sixties
A time when children were simple and free
Before technology soared; sedentary began
I yearn to go back to a time I thought grand

Author Notes
I'm sure technology has its positives in preparing children for the future, allowing access to more information as well as a source for educational entertainment but I wonder if the negatives far outweigh the positives such as sedentary lifestyle, creation of in-person disconnects, stifling a child's imagination, creatating developmental disabilities and struggles with time management. I'm not sure which is best. I just might be too old fashioned. I loved growing up in the fifties and sixties. Any thoughts welcomed!
Thank you to VMarguarite for the use of her image which reminded me so much of my childhood days.
