looking back on a life lived
we see bits and scraps of ourselves
scattered along the path of time
there are events early in our existence
that change our heart forever
during these troubled times
we gather love in long sheets of fleece
to wrap around us and cling to
when fear arises, and death comes calling
but there are many tender moments in between
the smile of a woman while sliding on a ring
tasting her sweet lips in marriage
a daughter with ten toes and fingers
watching her grow into a caring child
it is the children we cherish that count
smiles left behind from a word of kindness
tears shed for a scratch followed by a kiss
amidst hugs with deep affection
along every step taken on this journey of life
you'll find stars of love that glitter along the horizon

Author Notes
This poem is dedicated to a wonderful little girl named Allison Newell. That's her in the picture under all of that hair. Wanda and I have known her since she was six-weeks-old. Wanda has babysat for her for almost seven years, and she'll turn 8 in August. Allison has become a loving family member.
Sadly, on March 2nd, early in the morning, her father was tragically killed in an auto accident. We all were devastated. Ronnie was thirty-five. A dedicated father who all will miss.
Please pray for this special little girl.
Many thanks for stopping by to read!
Have a great day, and God bless.
