I can't get into your headspace.
I tried,
but I couldn't allow for it to erase
all the good feelings I have cultivated since
the long repressive months I spent
in hospitals and nursing homes where
they actually made me feel bad for being a man
with basic needs being scweltered and dampened
to suit the bias of how they wanted me to be.
So, with all due respect,
no matter how important you think your world view,
I won't go there with you.
It's not that I don't care.
I need to stay aware
of my genuine needs
and take heed
of what my heart and gut are telling me.

I realize that the term "scweltered" isn't in the dictionary, but no other word better described how I felt inside as I struggled to maintain dignity and self-respect in a world where neglect became a necessary component of care for the disabled and elderly.
