Mary Ann's Ride

by Clay Warren

Needing exercise but not wanting to hike,
Mary Ann bought a state-of-the-art bike.
Auburn hair, blue eyes, complexion like milk,
Squeezing her comeliness into racing silk.
Cute helmet with headphones built in,
So she could hum with oldies in the traffic din.
Biker helmet, biker duds, biker shoes,
A rolling collage of bright neon hues.
With no thought of attaining old age,
She embarked on her maiden voyage.
Road signs, lane markings, and hand signals,
To her, mere suggestions, no big deal.
Cutting across traffic with horns honking hard,
She was unaware, unruffled, and unmarred.
Signaling to turn east, she turned west,
And a car came to rest on a statue's chest.
Blissfully oblivious of anything wrong,
Tunefully humming "Love's Old Sweet Song."
Merrily she rolls along, rolls along, rolls along.
If you see a biker beauty, radiant in the Sun,
Smiling sweetly as she pedals and hums,
GOOD LORD! LOOK OUT! Here she comes.
