God Sent Me You

by Patty Palmer

Oh, what a happy feeling
When I open up my eyes
To see you staring at me.
Your eyes wide with surprise!

The pitter patter of little feet
Padding quickly across the floor
As you throw your arms around me
My heart could not ask for more.

Your jibber jabber as we "talk"
A conversation all our own.
Deciding what to do today.
A walk and an ice cream cone.

We've all day to play together!
No time table must we keep.
I could spend hours watching
As across the floor you creep.

For lunch we have SpaghettiOs.
You wear half of it on your face.
The spaghetti kisses that you give
Make my heart a happy place.

Toys scattered all over the floor
Memories made together to keep.
We rock and read a story
Until in my arms you fall asleep.

I remember when I wished
For a grandchild with eyes of blue.
My prayers were heard up above
And that's when God sent me you!
