Excellent
Not yet exceptional. When the exceptional rating is reached this is highlighted
A new challenging life

Amputation

by persevere

Loss of a leg
and needing a peg
No longer independent
now very dependent

Prosthetic attachment
Quite a learning event
From wheelchair to walking
Concentrating, no talking

An unwelcome intrusion
A phantom visitation
Had to train my mind
To dispense with its kind

Beyond just coping
I am now enjoying
New challenges daily
Monthly and yearly

Poetry about coping contest entry

My three main challenges have been having to become independent, to adapt to a prosthesis and to deal with phantom pains. I have learnt to call the latter phantom sensations which my brain now dismisses.
