How to go on after catastrophe

Catastrophic Coping

by Suzanne Albers

Catastrophic living
Growing rampant
Everywhere

The compulsion of revulsion...
You can smell it
In the air!

Latent doubts
Of future bouts
Swirl around my brain

To realize...life itself
Synonymous with pain

Complications not
Continuous...
Life guaranteed
To change

Day to day
You'll notice
Situations rearrange

With every hurt
There is a lesson..
It is to let it go

Whether it be in
A blink of the eye
Or fading much too slow

Beware of countless
Rabbit holes
That lead to separation
Inciting and inviting
Problematic complication

Follow the slipstreams
of light and see
Their source as
Being righteous

Transporting you to
A peaceful place
Of serenity and lightness

A sanctuary just for you
Of inner space and time
Where thoughts decline
Become benign
Embracing you
With peace sublime

Do you think
Our minds
Teflon for good
And Velcro for
The badness?

Where positivity
Slips right through
And thoughts adhere
To sadness

When married
To pain there's
Nothing to gain
As there would be
From a gentle rain

Be it more
Like a downpour of
Grief and fear
That makes you want
To disappear

You must alter
That course
And ask for Divorce
Refusing to let
It linger

And as a final
Good bye act
Give it your
Middle finger!

Rejoice when freedom
Fills your Heart!
Releasing you from
The damaged part

Expel it from
Habitual thought
Before it renders
You blind

That vile and
Fruitless virus..
Hiding like a
Coward in the
Corners of your mind

Poetry about coping contest entry

Very few of us escape suffering in our lives, especially if we live long enough. Whatever catastrophe hits us, we have to find a way to cope, or we will continue to suffer. I believe we all exist to experience joy, to help one another and to overcome adversity and pain. The answer is in the way we think and the power of the mind is an amazing gift that few of us have mastered.
