An ABC poem about an important rule of engagement

As I Have Always Said

by Mary Furlong

'Always' is an argument never to invoke
Because it blames, because it shames, because it will provoke
Counter charges, counter claims, circling 'round and 'round.
Defense ensues sufficiently to more or less, confound
Every hope of peace. 'You always' has a war-like sound.
