Measured Absurdity

by Y. M. Roger

Above the deepest darkest pit
And underneath the tallest tree
Come join me for banana splits
With just a spot of herbal tea

Of course, an orange and purple Kite
Will fly the Welcome Mat up high
Step out left then turn ‘round right
Wave to the Monarch Butterfly

Please don’t forget your xylophone
Because split ‘nanas need a tune
And oh yes, leave your chaperone
So you can dance beneath the moon

Now since your herbal tea has spots
You’ll have to pay the Kite a toll
Make sure you’re masked or your mug shot
Could land you on long-term parole

Agreed 'tis better than jail time
Or sticky buns without the sauce
But I’ll bet you don’t pantomime
So stay with flat not semi-gloss

In fact, your xylophonic strains
Could pay the Monarch dividends
Or conjure up a pontoon plane
To fly until this nonsense ends…
