Night Falls

by Janet Foor

A gentle wind blows through the ancient oak
that stands alone upon the verdant lawn.
A noisy night bird sings his repertoire
from lofty limbs and branches high above.

I settle in my old familiar chair
and listen to his crisp melodious song.
I sip my treasured chardonnay and gaze
into the sky of indigo and smile.

As Venus climbs into the western sky
I make a wish as thoughts of you emerge.
This music sounds so sweet like evensong
and I am resurrected as night falls.

Amidst the covid-19 and unrest in our nation and world, I am trying to be more circumspect and enjoy the little things of life.

Hope you are all doing well.
