Thank You, Volcano

by The Reverend Dr Gonzo

It's not everyday that you wake up thanking a volcano, but I did exactly that for seven days in April 2010.

I was serving my second deployment (Kosovo) since the previous August and had come home on the ever-so-necessary two week leave. It's name is Eyjafjallajökull, and the eruption was so explosive that it shut down trans-Atlantic travel for a full week, giving me a bonus week of vacation. I felt for the people who'd had to evacuate their homes. But, I couldn't stop smiling at the extra week (and homemade dinners) I was given with family and friends.
