A Rondaful

Time Paused Today

by tfawcus

Time paused today while I inhaled the spring
and captured in my eye the bloom of youth,
but, as my memory of you took wing,
a bird flew by

and, with a sigh, I watched it disappear
beneath our roof. This small domestic truth
eclipsed the sun. That bird was you, last year.
I turned away.

Time paused today, a bird flew by,
and, with a sigh, I turned away.

The Rondaful is a form created by Dolly'sPoems

It is a poem of three stanzas, with a syllable count: (10,10,10,4) (10,10, 10, 4) (8,8). The first four syllables and the last four syllables in stanza one and two, are repeated in consecutive order in the final couplet.

The rhyme scheme is indicated below.
x x x a x x x x x b
x x x x x x x x x c
x x x x x x x x x b

x x x x x x x x x d,
x x x x x x x x x c
x x x x x x x x x d
x x x a

x x x a x x x x
x x x x x x x a

At the suggestion of Pantygynt, I have added a cross-rhyme in Lines 4 and 5.
