Glowing Embers

by HarryT

Remember those icy Decembers
Our children out shoveling snow
In the fireplace glowing embers
Steve and Laura with red faces aglow

After their driveway mission
A wish to dry off and warm up
Came in snow clothes dripp’n
Hoped for a hot chocolate cup

Kicked off their slushy snow boots
Greeted by the smell of cookies baking
Tumbled swiftly from their wet snowsuits
Eager for a hot cup of cocoa just making

Those times around the kitchen table
Still sources of many pleasant stories
Stored as cherished reminisced fables
Forever in our emotional repositories

Now, as seniors, we sit by a warm, cozy fire
Our children and snow storms we remember
Sip our wine and contentedly conspire
Recall happy family times during December
