Anne Boleyn

by tempeste

She had the king wrapped around her finger,
he was willing to do anything to win her favours.

Infatuated by her persona
he even put at risk his corona*.

He broke off with the Vatican
and divorced his first wife Cathrine of Aragon.

Three years later the lust was gone
and failing to give him a son, Henry wanted to move on.

The state accused her of false wrongs
and sent her to the scaffold.

A horrifying prospect and no easy task;
often it took several blows from the man beneath the hood
before the head was properly lopped off.

As an act of clemency,
an expert swordsman from France
was summoned to undertake the gruesome job.

Her last words were not of anger nor hate
with courage she embraced her fate.

With a single blow Boleyn left this world;little did she know
that her only daughter, still a toddler,
would become a great ruler
and the last monarch of the House of Tudor.
