You Color My World

by June Sargent

For days on end my world was gray.
The past encased my heart like clay
that slowly hardened over time,
entombing feelings 'neath the grime.

But then you came into my life
with insight sharpened like a knife
that cut through years of layered pain.
You washed the grime away like rain.

With dark clouds banished, sunshine slowly filtered through.
No longer gray the skies became a brilliant blue.

Awakened by your warmth and love,
I spread my wings and soar above.
The earth below me seems to glow,
reflecting hues of my rainbow.
