Going Out

"Well, Brat, what ya think? More eyeliner? Less?"

GInny, my sister, had been staring at the mirror and talking non-stop. She was all decked out in a frilly lime dress and "going out" with Hal again. Third time this week. He was rich.

When I shrugged, she frowned. "And this time, be in bed when he knocks. PJs and pigtails aren't what he needs to see . . . tonight."

She flounced. Her reflection in the mirror shimmied.

"He called," I said.

"When?"

"While you were--" I waved a hand. "Said he had measles."

Her mouth dropped as I walked away grinning..
