Divided America

I Cry

by pome lover

I cry for my country--
The anger, the hate,
Fueled by outsiders--
An open floodgate.

Some "leaders" do nothing
The riots persist;
Wow! Freedom to riot?
Who could resist?

Defunding police!
Have they lost their minds?
No, what they've lost,
I believe, are their spines.

Elections are coming
And there are folks who
Want leaders in power
More power given to.

For those who subscribe
To the socialist's cause
And who want to change
Our long-standing laws

And free way of life--
And I don't mean free things--
I think they've no clue what
That kind of life brings.

They say they're not Communists,
But, yes they are.
They are the most dangerous
People by far.

What's wrong with these people?
Is freedom too much?
They'd rather depend on
The government "crutch"

To say what they can
And can't do with their lives?
Their freedom--of which
They're deprived.

I cry for my country,
But I have to hope
That with God's help we won't
Slide that slippery slope.
