Walk after the Storm

by HarryT

Hate those thunderstorms, but it passed
Climb from my car where I took shelter
Deeply inhale, sweet scented rain-washed air
Walk into the forest cathedral, take in the
Fragrant flower and evergreen aromas
Listen to cricket choir and chirps of happiness
Wander the lush forest path until…

Behind me a lighter click, I turn and say,
“Hey mister, don’t.”
He brings the flame to his pipe bowl
My final cry, “Please, don’t you
love the smell of fresh clean air?”
He looks my way, tips his hat,
Closes the lighter and walks away.
