Being African-American

by BermyBye50

Being African-American
freedom's perpetual slave,
an abhorrent identicalness
once vanquished altho its
strained heritage remains.

Their collective conscience
mired, its estranged history
immured intertribal warfare
sired in thraldom's tried
involuntary ravished womb.

Their royal Nubian ancestry
trammeled, yet handicapped
stalled in the bondage of time
jaded by self-esteem remanded,
continually bewared to fear.

Their familial tree untraceable
severed by strange fruit born
engendered in mother Africa
enchained awaiting reparations,
naming its ancestral self free.

Being African-American is not a monolithic solidarity but a cultural self shackling weathering imagined racial constructs of white privilege rooted in an innate irrational fear imposing an ingrained self-inflicted hatred resulting in self-perpetuating sequent generational mental enslavement.
