Antiques and Such

by Boogienights

The Mask Contest Winner
The mask was made from silken cloth,
faux jewels, paper mache.
She carefully matched it to her dress,
the party just hours away.

It shimmered in the lamplight,
took on a magic glow.
Sequins sewed around the crown,
put on their own light show.

A veil covered up her face,
it made her feel at ease.
Pulling up her stockings
that had holes around the knees.

Worn shoes that had seen better days,
her dress was somewhat old.
The mask in all its glory though,
was worth its weight in gold.

She found the mask that afternoon,
at a shop, she'd never seen.
And yet it seemed familiar
like she'd seen it in a dream.

"Antiques and Such" the sign had said,
its the first thing that she saw.
The price was dear, she didn't care,
the mask left her in awe.

The shop owner bagged up the mask,
her face was worn and old.
She smiled at her kindly,
"Have a good day." she extolled.

The masquerade was in full swing,
an Uber dropped her there.
Though she was all alone that night,
she didn't have a care.

The mask made her feel beautiful,
desirable to the brim,
Its something she had never felt,
and that's when she met him.

Her body pressed against him,
as the music loudly throbbed.
He felt her steal his senses,
His heart she boldly robbed.

The night finally came to an end,
Who knew she'd act so free,
She never once took off the mask,
her face he didn't see.

This strange lady stole his heart,
But she sent him away.
He'd never know the mask she wore,
came with a price to pay.

The mask came off, the silken cloth,
faux jewels, paper mache.
Revealed a face so ravaged,
it had stolen her youth away.

The mask had trapped another soul,
it always found a way.
she dreamed of all the night had held,
then later died that day.

"Antiques and Such," the sign had said,
the beautiful owner smiled.
The mask waited on a dusty shelf,
from since she was a child.

Would she live forever?
Well, Must you even ask?
A lovely woman wanders in,
enchanted by the mask.
