When my Mind is Free

by Willie P. Smith

A cool stream of water,
With ripples so clear.
Large cottonwoods
Standing near.

Casting their shade
Across the stream.
The water Cascades forward,
So fresh and clean.

Deep pools of water
Reflect the pale blue sky,
As cotton white clouds
Slowly float by.

A leaf softly falls
From a cottonwood.
It floats down stream
Like a boat would.

A fawn stops by
For a cool drink,
Then disappears
Quick as a wink.

Beautiful birds
Fill the trees,
As Limbs bend
In the soft breeze.

The rocks cause a foam,
As water rushes on it's way.
A perfect picture
Of a quiet country day.

I see this scene often,
It's a beautiful sight.
When my mind is free
And my eyes closed tight.
