Hiding a Broken Heart

by Diana Kane

Deep in my soul I hold back the dark.
I drown out the screams and I cradle my heart.
I paste on my smile and I manage a laugh.
They see what they want to and never look past.
It is all there to see if they were to look.
The blood and the bruises and all that he took.
But no one can see that I am broken and torn.
No one sees past the mask I have worn.
Only the night hears my heart wrenching cries.
Each night as I replay each one of his lies.
I know I must stop and find my way back.
But his words just keep echoing all that I lack.
I long for the end no matter what shape it takes.
No pain compares to a heart when it breaks.

I know itâ??s missing the artwork but it never seems to stay.
