I used to watch the evening news
Each time I did, I got the blues
Took the remote and tried to choose
Upbeat stations that would amuse

Election year adds to the mix
Look at the list -- who are these picks?
A narcissist who gets his kicks
From firing those who aim to fix

Another choice -- resurrected
More like drafted than selected
Candidates are more suspected
Anything goes -- get elected

What of Jill Stein of Green Party?
She's a doctor, a true smarty
Doesn't appeal to the farty
Who only know "Party Hearty!"

There's no question media confuse
Ignorant minds to pay their dues
The IRS is just a ruse
Global elite we should accuse

Now the census looms up ahead
They say we have to count each head
Just what we need to cause more dread
When our cupboard is out of bread

Not only that, Covid19
Appears on each and ev'ry screen
Like Crown of Thorns that we have seen
It's our penance for what we've been

The rising deaths create a chart
That hopefully will help restart
Economies that came apart
Any flat lines will give us heart

So, here we are -- 2020
Mayhem is in Land of Plenty
Wastrels watching every penny
They pretty soon won't have any

How do we wake from this nightmare?
It may be time to start to care
At least we can become aware
Once this is done, we'll have clean air
