A Canzonetta poem for Potlatch Poetry

Just Once More

by damommy

Beside the little brook I stood
remembering a song once heard
in this untamed, enchanted wood
where nothing’s moved, no leaf has stirred.
I felt at home, my heart lay here,
I left it when that time before
I heard a melody so dear.
I wished to hear the tune once more.

So, soon it came, that lilting air.
the same sweet notes, the same refrain.
In blink of eye, he’s standing where
I thought I’d ne’er see him again.
Beside the little brook he stood
and leaned against the sycamore
in this untamed, enchanted wood.
I wished to hear the tune once more.
