Not yet exceptional. When the exceptional rating is reached this is highlighted
It happens when husband leaves, things break

when husband leaves town

by Gail Denham

house machines
notice husband drive off
whisper: "okay, he's gone. start your clunks"

the washer
opens its welcoming
mouth, then burps and refuses to swish

speaks low to our oven
my cake and roast sit cold and forlorn

when hubby
calls to check how we are
there just are not words  I sob  he groans

3-6-9 Poem contest entry

It's happened so many times - mostly when husband leaves on a long business trip. I can count on it - the machines whisper to each other "he's gone."

Pays one point and 2 member cents.
