an 80 word story
The Runaway
by RodG
I was watching 'em both--the portly cop and the scrawny kid--sitting at my counter shoveling down the sundaes I'd made. Both vanilla with lots of hot fudge and whipped cream.
The cop finished first and grinned at the boy.
"I saw you toting that stick on your shoulder with all those clothes, so I . . . uh . . . gotta ask. Why you running away, son?"
The boy looked at him all wide-eyed.
"Not running away. I'm meeting Ma at the laundromat."
