Man running at beach, no water to drink.

Running Man

by HarryT

Running, running, running
along the ocean shore.
Thirst burning, burning
fever in my throat so sore.

Sun firing burning beams,
splash through cool waters
rolling onto sandy shore
but not a swallow to drink.

Legs heavy like cement,
brain sizzling, dizzying, dizzying,
can’t forge ahead, black rushes in
drop to the sand, wait for dead.

Touch of cool lips to my cheek,
Soft, tender voice whispering,
“Honey, time to get out of bed.”
