Bringing me joy

Past Comforts

When I was just small I fondly recall,
a lamp that would spin, making shapes on my wall.
It made me feel safe in my small sleeping space,
as figures would move at a slow steady pace.
Circus animals under the moon and stars,
across pink painted walls and curtains of lace.

I remember the sound of soft summer rain
as it beat out a tempo on my windowpane.
Memories such as this give my heart a lift,
like the song of my favorite bird's sweet refrain.

Just down the road, half a mile or so,
a fishing hole sat in a pasture below.
By the light of the moon, the bullfrogs would bellow,
what they croaked to each other?
Well, no one could know.

In winter when snow turned the ground frosty white
and icicles hung like chandelier lights.
The warmth of our breath turned to steam as we played,
while choosing up sides in our wild snowball fights.

Now in a world that's been turned upside down,
where uncertainty fear and sadness are found.
I find some small comfort in past memories
til' the safe world we once knew is  on solid ground.
