Muffled Explosions
by HarryT
We were living in Chicago, during the Iran hostage crisis. My mom thought we were going into another war. Mom was a child of the depression and World War II. Every week, when she shopped, she bought extra canned goods and put in an old steamer trunk she had inherited. The hostage crisis finally passed. One afternoon we heard muffled explosions. Trunk was blown open. The canned tomatoes drip like blood from the basement walls.
