After COVID-19

The American Spirit

by pome lover

I think we’ll stay our stronger selves
That we’ve become through this ordeal—
Less partial to life’s “fripperies”
And more in tune with what is real.

I think we had a wake-up call
A second chance to get it right
To let the best in us come out—
Our empathy shine bright.

Just look, when harsh reality
Attacked us unexpectedly,
 Americans rose to the test
 In solving things aggressively—

Scientists are creating drugs,
Companies are in transition
Making different needed things
By their own volition;

Doctors, nurses, servicemen
First responders, volunteers
People helping others while
They put aside their fears.

Like they did in World War II
Americans are pitching in
Doing what is needed most,
And helping people mend.

Fam’lies doing more together
Building mem’ries that will last
Probably they will continue
When this scourge has passed.

I think as a country, we
Will come back, economically
And soon with needed medicines
Have total self-sufficiency.

I’m lucky, I don’t really mind
This stay at home - mobile downgrade;
I’m painting front door one more time—
It’s still green, yep, but different shade.

The sun is shining, and it brings
My lovely muse—I’m writing things.
I feel like singing, so I sing
And (in my mind) I do hand springs.
