Was it a blizzard, or just a dream?

One Snowy Night in New York

by Mary Kay Bonfante

'Twas February, and snow was so bright,
In New York City, quite late at night.
I went to work, for I needed the pay,
As a blanket of snow around me lay.

'Twas February, and snow was so bright,
Thick on the sidewalk and street as well.
Through streets deserted in glaring light,
I slogged through every hill and swell.

In New York City, quite late at night,
I saw barely a soul, one or two, not more.
All was simplicity, covered in white,
Much as it was, a century before.

I went to work, as I needed the pay,
Refreshed by snow swirling wildly past.
Well bundled, rejoicing, I went my way,
Willing those moments to last and last.

As a blanket of snow around me lay,
I pressed on, among billowy swaths of snow.
When I finally arrived, I knew I would stay,
Far above thick white blankets below.
