Morbid fear of storms

by Chrissy710

I have a morbid fear of storms;
This began when I was a child.
My grandfather took me outside
To show me the lightning styles.

He said "See that sheet of lightning?
well that one's safe, but see that fork?
that's the one that will kill you."
I have a morbid fear of storms;

He put this fear inside my head
with every storm I'd run inside.
Yes I still do though now I'm old
This began when I was a child.

With the sound of thunder I panic
my heart begins to race with fright;
I think back to that fateful day
My grandfather took me outside.

So if I hear a storm approaching
I'll close the curtains and all blinds;
Do not invite me to come with you
To show me the lightning styles.

This is a true story that still hold me in fear today I hate storms and still run inside in fear of lightening I cannot watch it under any circumstance ( except on the TV etc) but if there is a storm around me I quickly go inside , close all the blinds and curtains so I can't see the lightning. When I was four years old I lived on my grandparents farm with my father and brother ( my mother died when I was three) I remember a storm had arrived and my grandfather taking me outside to show me the lightning he explained that the 'sheet lightning' was quite safe but then a big 'fork lightning' appeared and he said to me "See that fork lightning that will kill you". So with that I ran inside and I have been scared stiff of lightning ever since

I am now 67 and the sound of Thunder still has me in a panic and I only feel once inside and yes I do pull the blinds down and shut the curtains and if in bed I pull the cover up over my head

I cannot get over this fear my family think I am silly but they understand my fear

PS I loved my grandfather but not this story of the lightning

I thought this prompt may be suitable as this fear has been with me all my life

Thanks Jan for this challenge

I hope my poem meet cascade requirements
