a 100-word story
Bath in the Amazon
by Bill Schott
The warm water felt good as Rex relaxed in the metal tub.
Trekking through the Amazon alone had been a failure. He'd been lost for days and was out of food and resources. Earlier in the day he'd stepped into quicksand and had sunk quickly up to his shoulders.
Fortunately, a passing tribe had pulled him free and brought him into their village.
Luxuriating now in this bath alone, he noticed the huts around him. They were draped with hides of some hairless beasts. It wasn't until he saw the shrunken heads that he knew -- his would soon join them.
